Hispanic Leadership Summit

The Hispanic Leadership Forum organized the first ever Hispanic Leadership Summit in the Hampton Roads area. The summit covered issues of deep importance to the Hispanic community and took place on October 13th, 2007, at Virginia Wesleyan College, Boyd Dining
Center, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Locally and nationally known experts in the area of business, education and immigration issues discussed these issues in the context of the Hampton Roads Community. Rene Perez Lopez, professor of Political Science at Virginia
Wesleyan College, Dr. Steve Emmanuel, professor of Philosophy at Virginia Wesleyan College and Christina Rebeil, a lawyer with

Poverty
Law
Center
formed the panel on immigration issues. Hispanic leaders on the education panel were Douglas Garcia, assistant secretary to the Secretary of Education and Dr. Mavel Velasco Muñoz, professor of Latin American Literature and Spanish at
Virginia
Wesleyan
College. Hispanics in Business was led by Christine Giordano, president/CEO of Knowledge Information Solutions, Inc., and Dennis Gilbert, president of Tesoro Corp.
Along with very informative speakers, the summit offered great entertainment provided by Dr. Sam Dorsey and Tidewater Classical Guitar Society. |
