 SUPERVALU and Farm Fresh to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

with contributions to the Hispanic Leadership Forum of Hampton Roads, Inc.

Virginia Beach, VA - September 19, 2008--In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Farm Fresh, a SUPERVALU INC. (NYSE:SVU) company, will help to sponsor the Hampton Roads Hispanic Leadership Summit scheduled for September 27, 2008 to help celebrate the culture and achievements of the Hispanic American community. The observation of Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and was expanded in 1988 to cover a 30-day period from September 15 to October 15.

SUPERVALU, Farm Fresh’s parent company, will donate $125,000 to students and Hispanic American non-profit organizations across the country during the month through a national program funded by PepsiCo and Colgate Palmolive.  Farm Fresh’s contribution of $2,500 will help to fund scholarships for deserving Hampton Roads Hispanic students wishing to further their education to attend the school or college of their choice. Scholarships are administered through the Hispanic Leadership Forum of Hampton Roads, Inc. (“HLF”)  HLF stands ready to help make it possible for deserving Hispanic students to further their education.

Supervalu is also sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Essay contest. Consumers should contact their local Farm Fresh stores for contest rules. The contest ends on October 25, 2008 and is open to students 14-18 years of age. Students must compose an original essay, in 500 words or less, about what their Hispanic heritage means to them.
