expand their leadership skills and enhance

formed the panel on immigration issues. Hispanic leaders on the education panel
were Douglas Garcia, assistant secretary to the Secretary of Education and Dr.
Mavel Velasco Muñoz, professor of Latin American Literature and Spanish at
Virginia
Wesleyan
College
. Hispanics in Business was led by
Christine Giordano, president/CEO of Knowledge Information Solutions Inc., and
Dennis Gilbert, president of Tesoro Corp.
Meeting with Thelma Drake: On
March 11, 2007, at the residence of Wellinthon Muñoz and Mavel Velasco, the
Hispanic Leadership Forum met with Second District of Virginia, Congresswoman
Thelma Drake.
Recent analysis of current criminal trends show an
increase in crime related to gang activity. We, as a community, must take a
proactive stance on this issue. In light of this, the City of Virginia Beach and
the Virginia Beach City Public Schools are inviting citizens to attend the first
of several free public forums on gangs and gang activity on Wednesday, March 7,
from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Virginia Beach Convention Center located at 1000 19th
Street.
