Hispanic Leadership Summit 2008:

September 27th, 2008, at Virginia Wesleyan College, Boyd Dining Center, in Norfolk, Virginia. 

        

The Hispanic Leadership Summit is an annual event that connects, informs, and mobilizes established leaders throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. In linking these leaders to each other and to national experts and leaders, we hope the Summit to be a catalyst for translating ideas into actions that benefit the Hampton Roads community. Hispanic Leadership Summit 2007:

The 2007 Summit featured panelists who introduced fresh ideas and proven programs designed to help attendees  network, expand their leadership skills and enhance the leadership performance of their organizations.  Rene Perez Lopez, professor of Political Science at Virginia Wesleyan College, Dr. Steve Emmanuel, professor of Philosophy at Virginia Wesleyan College and Christina Rebeil, a lawyer with Virginia Poverty Law Center formed the panel on immigration issues. Hispanic leaders on the education panel were Douglas Garcia, assistant secretary to the Secretary of Education and Dr. Mavel Velasco Muñoz, professor of Latin American Literature and Spanish at Virginia Wesleyan College .  Hispanics in Business was led by Christine Giordano, president/CEO of Knowledge Information Solutions Inc., and Dennis Gilbert, president of Tesoro Corp.

Meeting with the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee:

On April 15, 2007 the Hispanic Leadership Forum met with members of The Virginia Beach Democratic Committee

Virginia Beach Police Department Gang Forum
      
Recent analysis of current criminal trends show an increase in crime related to gang activity. We, as a community, must take a proactive stance on this issue. In light of this, the City of Virginia Beach and the Virginia Beach City Public Schools are inviting citizens to attend the first of several free public forums on gangs and gang activity on Wednesday, March 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Virginia Beach Convention Center located at 1000 19th Street.
